Urubamba - Part I

It´s us - we´re here!! We´re still very much here!! The Rainbow Centre is fantastic and our accommodation is great - more details to follow, watch this space!!

The great guiding spirit shone through during the earthquake (even though most of us didn´t even realise there had been one...)

The flight to Cusco was fine and we´re now acclimatising, ready to begin wall building tomorrow. Paddington has already found himself a Peru guiding Friendship badge and has been adopted by a little girl here in the centre.

Cheerio for now!

All of us :)

Day 5 - Cusco, Peru

The group has landed safely in Cusco this morning. They will then be heading directly to Urubamba by private minibus as planned, ready for 2 weeks of work and play at The Rainbow Centre. Sarah has spoken to our contact at Kiya Survivors and they are looking forward to welcoming the group.

Day 4 - Lima - Earthquake in Peru, the group are all fine.

On Wednesday evening at around 18:40 (00:40 UK time) Peru was hit by a earthquake. Early reports say that it registered at least 7.9 on the Richter scale and the epicentre was 90 miles South East of Lima.

I am in direct communication with Sarah Dillon. The LaSER group are all fine and well and they hardly felt it at all! They are currently being hosted by some of the National Council of Lima Guides and they are doing a wonderful job of looking after them.

They have been having a great evening!

Day 3 - Lima sightseeing

Today we have done a little sight seeing tour by bus and explored the capital city. The tour took us up the St Christopher to the the big cross at the top, unfortunately it was too cloudy to see anything decent. The weather is cold and cloudy and we had a little rain this morning. The welcome from the Lima guides was a fab surprise as we didn't know they would be there.

Also we had one bag go missing which is planned to arrive tomorrow - if all goes well. Not bad considering the mess Heathrow has been in with their baggage issues!

News just in: Whilst the group were enjoying sightseeing Paddington went by Urbanito bus to visit Aunt Lucy in the Miraflores Home for Retired Bears on the coast. He had brought many postcards with him to save on the postage. They enjoyed several cups of cocoa and Aunt Lucy loved Paddington's gift of some Harrods' Thin Cut Whisky Marmalade which thankfully hadn't been confiscated at Customs.

Day 2 - Lima Airport, Peru

The group's flight landed 30 mins early at Jorge Chávez airport.
They are all knackered but excited. They had a fab welcome from the local Guides.
We look forward to hearing from the group again soon.

News just in: Paddington was stopped at the Peruvian Border Control and had his briefcase searched. Apparently he was trying to smuggle in four times the allowance of Marmalade. After a full body search Border Police confiscated three marmalade sandwiches which he was concealing underneath his hat. His famous Paddington Bear stare had no effect on the officials as you are not allowed to import fresh food into Peru - not even in case of emergencies.
Naughty Paddington.

Day 2 - Somewhere over the Atlantic

The group's flight landed in Amsterdam only 2 mins late at 08:57 (local time). After just 45 mins they were onboard their connecting flight to Lima which took off a little later than planned at 10:31.

Right now they should be enjoying another light breakfast ;-)

Day 1 - Staines, UK

Saturday was a beautiful sunny day. Everyone arrived safely and the group enjoyed a Pizza Hut meal before getting an early night ahead of their crack-of-dawn Heathrow departure.

Paddington was looking forward to visiting Aunt Lucy in Darkest Peru.
